William and Melvina are buried in Little Springs Cem., Hamilton Co., Ill. [235]
According to a family story at Ancestry.com, prior to his marriage to Melvina,
William fathered a son Jeremiah with Delilah Ann Carter. Shortly after the birth
Delilah married J.W. Johnson and Jeremiah took the name Johnson. He changed his
name to Broyles at the time of his marriage to Nancy Ardine Johnson, a niece of
J.W. Johnson. She appeared to be a first cousin but in fact she wasn't related
by blood.
In the 1880 census William and Melvina are separated. William is listed as
widowed or divorced and Melvina heads a household with the children. It seems
they reconciled since daughter Vina was born in 1884.
