The 1870 and 1880 census list him as Austin Briles but later census
records list him as Alsee. He had a son named Alsee, suggesting
that Austin was perhaps some kind of transcription error. Only a
direct descendant would know the answer as to his true name.
Daughter J. Ella's birth is given as 23 Sep 1974 on her death
certificate but it seems unlikley. She gives her birth as Oct
1872 in the census of 1900 and she consistenly ages by 10 years
in the censuses of 1910 and 1920. Further, her marriage license
(signed by A.H. Briles) gives her age as 18 in April of 1891, again
pointing to a birth year of 1872.
