Samuel served in the 39th Regiment, Tennessee Mounted Infantry (CSA).

The 1870 census of Davidson Co. is practically illegible but we find
a potential couple with the right first names. However, we don't find
their children in the household.

He is said to have lived in Oklahoma and died c. 1906 [1], yet
his widow is found in the 1900 census of St. Louis with a number of
the children. If Samuel was alive at this time he is not found in
the census. This suggests he died prior to 1900.
