1850 Briles, John W. MO, Clark 22 IN Laborer
1860 Briles, John W. IA, Humbolt 34 IN Farmer
It appears John died in the late 1860's, probably in Boone Co.,
Iowa where his daughters married. There is no census entry for
him in 1870, and his widow and children have not been located
either. Of some interest is the fact that a Jenette Briles
married Butler S. Hand in Boone Co. in 1870. This is presumably
John's widow, but in the 1880 census of that county we find
Jenette Briles and two daughters. Butler Hand has remarried and
moved to Arkansas.
Also of interest is that in 1850 and 1860 John and Burnetta/Jenette
had young Briles girls, relatives, in their households. It was
certainly common for older couples to have grandchildren in their
households, but it's a bit unusual to see young families fostering
children.
