John Wayland had substantial holdings at his death, indicating
that he was quite a successful farmer. Catherine survived him
for many years, and she appears to have remained active until
past the age of 80. She lived to be around 100 years old! (Her
brother Michael was also long lived.)

John's will names only one child, daughter Margaret. The rest of
the children are taken from an inventory of articles that was
made at the time of John's will. It lists the heirs and which
articles they had been given as 'early inheritance' prior to
John's death. Given the size of his estate, this was a very
prudent measure.

8 Aug 1751 - Catherine Weyland sponsors a child of Nicholas
Crigler. Hebron Church.

1757...1775 - Catherine and John were sponsors for the children
of Nicholas Broyles. [1]

on White Oak Run. [1]

30 Mar 1763 - John witnesses the will of Adam Wilhite. [67]26:242

19 May 1763 - Catherine is mentioned in her father's will as
Catherine Wayland. She inherits part of the estate. Culpeper
Co., Va. [3]1:29

22 Jan 1772 - John and Catherine sell 200 acres to Adam Yager.
Adam Broyle is witness. [67]242

26 Jul 1779 - John and Catherine sell land to John Deer, Jr.
[67]242

1779 - John sells 205 acres to George Laymen. [1]

22 Mar 1804 - John's will is probated. wit: William Herndon,
George Harrison, Leevinor Watson, Rodah Jarrell. [1] Catherine
Wayland is named executor of her husband's will and her bond is
signed by Matthias Weaver, Jacob Souther, Cornelius Wayland.
Appraisers are George Howison, John Wilhoit, George Crisler.
Madison Co., VA.

1810 - Catherine is listed in the census of Madison Co.,
VA. She owns five slaves.

1775...1811 - Catherine is frequently found on the communion
rolls of Hebron Church, and until his death, John's name
appears with hers occasionally. [1]

1820 - She is again listed in the census of Madison Co.,
VA, with her five slaves.

22 Jun 1831 - Matthias Weaver is named administrator of
Catherine's estate. Madison Co., VA. [1]
