An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on July 8, 1926 
for Franklin K. Broyles, states that he had died at his home Monday 
(July 3, 1926). Being a carpenter by trade, he was instrumental in 
the construction of many of the finest homes in Shelbyville. He was 
a cabinet maker and during his last few years employed his time 
almost wholly in making fine pieces of furniture for special friends. 
He had served as representative of his ward on the City Council and 
at one time a member of the Board of Education of the Shelbyville 
Graded Schools. He was born in Virginia in 1839 and when a small 
boy was brought by his parents to Illinois, where practically all 
his years were spent. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Chew 
and to them one child, Mattie Broyles was born. Mattie grew into 
womanhood and passed away several years before his death. Besides 
his wife he was survived by two brothers, Mansfield of Shelbyville 
and Wesley of Burlington, North Dakota. There was also a nephew, 
Marion Broyles. Funeral services were held from the home, Rev. 
Bowman of Lakewood officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
