Excerpt from "Biographical Memoirs of Grant Co., IN", p463:
Jacob Briles was conscripted in the Confederate army in 1864 and
served until the end of the war in the eastern part of N.C. He
came to Grant County, Indiana in 1866. In May, 1900, he was
elected city-clerk and treasurer of Fairmount. He married 1st.
Julia Ann Reeder in 1868, daughter of Spencer Reeder. Jacob and
Julia had Albert R., John E., Arminta Elizabeth, Charles S. who
died at the age of 27, and Robert who died at the age of 24.
Julia Ann (Reeder) Briles was called away in 1884. Jacob Briles
married 2nd. Miss Sarah Lawrence and they had two children,
Walter and Maud.
