Joshua served in Company F of the 16th Kentucky Infantry (Union)
during the Civil War. He entered with the rank of corporal and
left with the rank of sergeant. He was apparently wounded during
battle as he is listed as suffering from a gunshot wound in the
U.S. census of 1880. He received a pension from 1907 until his
death.
