Tobias appears to be the first of the family to migrate to the
state of Indiana, probably around the year 1813. Harrison Co.
is located on the Ohio River opposite to Louisville, Ky. He was
indifferent to how his name was spelled, appearing as Broyles
and Briles. Some of his children took the Briles name.

Tobias's wife is unknown.

Children Ephraim and Barbara are mentioned in the estate settlement.
Abigail married in Harrison Co. soon after Tobias's arrival there.

Catherine married in Vanderburgh Co. which is a neighbor to Posey
Co. and the home of descendants of Julius Broyles, so she would appear
to descend from that line. But in the census Catherine consistently
gives Indiana as her birthplace, and both her parents were born in
Virginia. These two factors point to her being Tobias's daughter,
and he has a slot for a daughter born in 1816, whereas Julius does
not.

Della, Samuel, and Sarah are unplaced and assumed to be children of
Tobias.

Of particular note are the four unnamed sons born 1804-15.

Cyrus Broyles had divided his land among his children (15 Sep

All children received an amount equal to $333.03. Samuel's
complaint regarded a slave worth $300 given to Adam Broyles
(Rosanna's husband) by Cyrus in 1818. This had not been taken
into account in the estate settlement. It is noted that sons
Tobias and Daniel might not be solvent. [11]50

4 Sep 1832 - Tobias makes the final payment on his land and
receives the deed. Jeffersonville Land Office, Register of
Sales. [151]

Tobias. [153]

place an advertisement in the "Investigator" (Corydon, IN) to the
other heirs stating their desire to partition the estate. [153]
(The DAR says there is a deed of this date, Book C, page 125.
Research in Harrison County was unable to find it.)
