Charles E. Broyles led a varied and interesting life which
you can read about in his autobiography. [274] He was
colonel of the 36th Georgia Infantry Regiment (Confederate).
At the age of 49 he left Georgia for Colorado to try his luck
at mining but settled back into practicing the law and having
some success. His first wife Lucy died while he was getting
himself set up, and he eventually met and married his second
wife and raised an entire second family. Note that he had two
sons named Charles E. and two named John A.!
