Ephraim lived on Horse Creek in Greene Co., TN. He was a devout
Methodist and classreader, and left a reputation as a very
kind-hearted man. Some small proof of this are the seven Greene
Co. marriages where he signed as security. Ephraim is also said
to have had a withered hand. [1]
Ephraim's wife Grace was the sister of Mary McCain. Mary was the
wife of Lewis Broyles.
May 1796 - Ephraim was named to a road committee in Greene
Co., Tenn. [12]:233
18 Dec 1811 - Grant 1994, State of Tennessee, to Ephraim Broyles,
10 acres on south side of the Nolachucky River on Higgins Branch,
adjoining Thomas Prather and Philip Bird. Based on Entry No.
377, 21 Dec 1809 - founded on Warrant No. 2411 issued by John
Carter to Henry McKenney for 100 acres, 10 Jan 1795 - assigned by
McKenney to Jacob Bird, and by Bird 10 acres to Ephraim Broyles.
[87]:238
1812 - Ephraim is on the tax list of Greene Co., TN. He
is taxed for 190 acres. [47]
1850 - He and his wife Grace are listed in the Greene Co.,
TN, census. Grace's birthplace is given as "unknown." They
appear to be quite poor, in that their property value is only
$100.
6 Oct 1851 - Ephraim's will is probated. The will had been
written 19 Mar 1828. The will names his four children and wife
Grace. Grace inherits the house and the interest on $500. The
children are to divide the estate equally on her death. [10]:73
