He is said to have been a Baptist preacher. [1]
James is not found in the 1870 census. He was about to remarry
in Cooper Co. and was certainly in the area. Sons John and
Charles are found living with other families in 1870. Daughter
Lida is said to have been adopted by a family named Funkhauser.
Son Charles married Missouri Bass, daughter of James' third
wife Eliza, and the ceremony was performed by Jas. C. Broyles,
M.G.
