Jacob and Anna married at the unusually late ages of 51 and 32,
respectively.
c. 1801 - Jacob joined his father in the move from Madison
Co., VA, to Monroe Co. in what is now West Virginia.
1820 - His entry in the census of Monroe Co., VA, shows
him heading a household of his mother and father, plus his
unmarried brother Aaron.
11 Oct 1823 - He is named executor of his father's will.
1810...1837 - Jacob is on the tax rolls of Monroe Co., VA. [51]
18 Jun 1838 - Jacob's will is proven by William Stodghill and
Washington Broyles. Monroe Co., VA. [117]4:314 This seems to
be the only reference to Jacob having a will.
15 Apr 1839 - John Syms, Delaney Swinney, and Robt. Coulter are
appointed to appraise the estate of Jacob Broyles. [117]4:411
They returned their appraisal on 18 Jun.
- After Jacob's death, Anna and her son David
continued living together in Monroe Co.
1870 - Anna is living in the household of Andrew W.
Broyles (son of Thompson of Solomon). Her son David had died a
few years earlier.
- Anna lived to be very old. She died in the home of
her niece who had married Allen Fleshman. [1]
- An Anna Broyles, aged about 85, died in 1859. She
is buried in Linside Cemetery, Monroe Co., VA. [3]9:27 This
would appear to be her, but there must be an error in the date of
transcription.
