John Jagger's family bible has the death date for a Joseph
Jagger. There is no explanation as to who he is but it is
assumed he was John's father.
Joseph Jagger's burial record is dated four days after the
death date above and is found in the Coley Chapelry of Halifax,
Yorkshire. Joseph's age is given as 57, identical to what
is found in the family bible.
John Jagger, his son, gives his own birthplace as Halifax in the
census but it would be more accurate to say Northowram, a
village near Halifax where Joseph appears to have lived his
whole life. We find him in the census there from 1841 through
1861, shortly before he died.
Joseph's first wife Mary died sometime prior to 1851 and he
remarried to Mrs. Hannah Fielding, widow. The marriage
record indicates that John's occupation was weaver and that
his father John Jagger was also a weaver.
There is uncertainty as to his birthdate. The death records
indicate 1806. The census says 1811, 1809, and 1809.
