There is some question of who Andrew's father is. [42] states
without proof that he is a son of Michael. If he is a Greene Co.
Broyles, as indicated by his marriage there, then he might also
be a son of Matthias. In the 1880 census, Andrew's son Cain
states that both of his parents were born in Tennessee. This
adds some weight to him being a son of Michael or Matthias, but
it cannot be counted on too heavily.
[64] indicates that he might be descended from the North Carolina
branch of the family, which is supported by the way his name is
spelled. If so, he would probably be a son of George of Conrad
or Adam of Conrad. Adam moved from North Carolina to Tennessee
sometime before 1790. The best support of this theory is that
Andrew is found with George and Jacob, both sons of Adam, in
Madison Co., AL, in 1815.
From his record we can see that Andrew was something of an
explorer, moving every few years until finally settling down in
Fayette Co., TN.
1813 & 1815 - Andrew Briles/Broils is on the tax list of Madison
Co., AL. [3]4:20 He was not on the tax list in 1811 or 1812, so
he appears to have moved to Alabama around 1812. Also found in
the same county are George and Jacob, sons of Adam of Conrad.
- Andrew moves to Limestone Co., AL.
1819 & 1820 - Andrew Briles is listed in a special census of
Limestone Co., AL. The census, besides counting taxable people,
tallies the cotton production in the county. Andrew is listed as
having 10 acres of cotton production, which yielded him 7 350
pound bales. He has 3 sons and 5 daughters. [63]
4 Feb 1825 - Andrew Bryles, assignee of John A. Wilson, enters
66 acres on the Wolf River in Hardeman Co., TN. The grant was
recorded in December of that year. [239] This grant marked his
move to Hardeman Co. Daugthers Mary and Mahalia marry there in
1826 and 1828.
c. 1829 - Andrew moves to Fayette Co., TN.
1831 - Andrew Bryles sells to (son-in-law) Eathan A.
Murphy in Hardeman Co., TN. [65]D:176
16 Aug 1833 - Andrew and Marcus have 274 acres of land surveyed
in Fayette Co., TN. The claim was founded on a warrant to a
Charles Bryles. [64]
1839 - Andrew Briles is on the tax list of Dyer Co., Tenn.
He owns 274 acres of land valued at $1500, and he owns 4 slaves
valued at $2900. A wealthy man indeed. His total tax bill comes
to $6.60 for poll, state, and county taxes. [240] Sons Ira
and Marcus are also in the list.
1840 - Andrew and Anne appear to be living with in the
household of their son Marcus in Fayette Co., TN. [5]
3 Jan 1842 - "Andrew Bryles, Smyth Baxter, and John Allen are
appointed commissioners to examine into the condition and health
of Sarah Sanders, a pauper of this county now at Wm. Gibson's."

are named jurors for the forthcoming May 1844 Court Session.

7 Jul 1845 - Marcus B. Bryles is appointed administrator of the
estate of Andrew Bryles, deceased. A bond of $8000 was put up by

15 Dec 1849 - Anny Bryles deeds a gift, with love and affection,
to her son, Cain Bryles. The deed was for a slave. wit: W.P.
